  GETTING TO THE ROYAL MILE
WALKING
The Royal Mile is best explored on foot. It is built on a sloping ridge from the castle to the palace, so it is easier to walk downhill than up. It's advisable to take your time as there is so many interesting places to discover that you could spend all day exploring. There are several bars, restaurants and cafés to stop off at along the way and many guided walking tours available.
See walkit.com for more Edinburgh Walks.
CYCLING
There are many scenic cycle paths all over the city, through parks and by the Water of Leith as well as designated cycle lanes on most city centre's main roads.
There is a handy cycling map here.
CAR
The section of the High Street between St. Giles' Cathedral and The Tron Kirk is pedestrianised but allows for vehicle access for deliveries via sinking bollards at each end. The car is not the best form of transport for visiting Edinburgh City Centre.

PARKING
The nearest multi-story public car park to the Royal Mile is accessed via Blackfriar's Street underneath the Radisson Blu Hotel (open 24hrs). There is also a multi story car park at the corner of East Market Street and New Street and an open short-stay car park at Holyrood Park. There is also metred 'Pay and Display' on-street parking for short stays in the Canongate and many of the side streets just off or close to The Royal Mile.
